Pakistan Election 2008 Online Coverage Top 5 Websites

By Farhan Kamal • Feb 19th, 2008 • Category: Lead Story, Website-Reviews

With some surprising and expected results, a lot of things were different this time around when Pakistan voted for their next parliament. With several TV and Radio channels reporting the results LIVE to its viewers and listeners, the online scene was primarily dominated by websites of the major media groups and prominent bloggers.

View my top 5 list

  1. GEO.TV Election Coverage
Geo TV’s online version was a full scale, dedicated website for the 2008 elections. It contains a news section, and links to live Video and Audio streaming, primarily for Pakistanis living abroad. It also has a blog, but it needs some improvement.Apart from that, there’s a whole section of Latest Results, which opens to a new section of the election coverage online. This comprises of a regularly updated party position chart, party symbols chart, names and addresses of candidate from all constituencies, election promos and other useful links. Visit Website
  2. DAWN.COM Election Coverage
Dawn’s website opens with the party position chart on the front. The numbers here slightly fall back and seem a little behind what I saw on GEO’s website. However, the statistical data provided in Dawn’s website additionally shows the results of the results of 2002 elections along with each constituency. That’s all on Dawn’s website. There’s also a link to a Dawn Blog, which seems neat. Visit Website

  3. Pakistaniat.com
ATP is its own style, provides review and analysis with charts and blog posts. I personally liked what I read there, and how it has been presented. Though the blog itself claims not be a news site so it should not be reached-out for the latest party position. Overall a very good effort.
  4. PkPolitics.com
Again a blog site managed and maintained by Pakistanis in the UK. A well crafted website, which provides totally unique content and analysis on Election 2008 Coverage for Pakistanis around the globe. Worth Visiting
  5. PakSpectator.com
Another political blog/magazine website. Full of reviews, articles, analysis and public opinions. The content is original and makes you stay there for a while. Take a tour
